During the winter months the
boys (plus my Dad!) fly indoor every two weeks.
We have been through the usual Mini IFO stage and progressed onto all manner
of flying machines right up to the Genie 3-D machine that I fly with a
Hacker B20 and PJS550.
The latest craze is the Shock Flyer from Ikarus in Germany. I first saw
photos of these models in a German heli mag hovering!
The performance of these models is way beyond most modellers idea of an
indoor model, they are the best thing to arrive on the scene for a long
time.
The std set up using a Speed 300 motor and gear box works well-Big J is
still using a std set up in his first model (you need more than one!) and
with 340 Kokham cells it prop hangs with the best of them!
I went brushless from the start with the PJS 300 motor and having experimented
with a second model fitted with a Typhoon 6 still think it's the better
set up.
The PJS with either a 9 x4.5 or 8 x 4.3 slow fly prop gives the best prop
hanging performance, the Typhoon 6 has too much power on fresh packs of
3s1p 340 Kokham cells, I'm going to try 2 cells for the optimum set up.
The Typhoon motor pulls twice the current of the PJS.
Avoid the Saturn 4.9 gram servo (they are Cra*p!) and fit the 4.4gram on
elevator and rudder. The Ailerons need something better like a Supertec
Pico or HS 50.
Our second batch is sold out and I expect big sales of these models over
the coming months.
